I found several articles on this by searching the web under "long organ concert."   For example, a copy of an AP article is at

As to the question of how long a reed organ reed could vibrate continuously without catastrophic failure, I know of no experimental tests of that, although we've done some pretty cruel thing to reeds in our lab...
