System Three Varnish

Well, I'm not exactly sure about rubbing off electrons, but I think the reference to "hard" describing varnish is that the surface is durable - not that if you put a coat on your boat you suddenly have the equivalent of a steel hull and can ram it into granite islands without damage. It dries hard, and simply has a servicable surface.

Another thing to consider is the film thickness. I'm not sure about the bowling alley stuff you mentioned, but I think some of that is designed to go on rather thick. Good varnish is applied very thin. My guess is that the volume of bowling alley stuff will exceed the amount of varnish needed by some number of times.
