The nasty, dirty, false beating, wiry, whiny, twangy, weak sound =
frequently found in S&S uprights in the 5th octave and above is =
primarily due to:

  A. poorly shaped bearing bar
  B. sloppy notching
  C. inadequate bearing
  D. inadequate counterbearing pressure
  E. all of the above
  F. other (please extrapolate)

The best way to address this problem short of complete rebuilding =
is... get someone else to tune it. (please feel free to improvise your =
ideas).
