OK - I'll answer publicly. Having your own domain doesn't require alot of work on your part..just some initial $$ to register whatever name you want, and then hook that up with a web host. Here's what you do: go to either www.register.com or www.networksolutions.com to find out if the name you wish to register is already taken. I strongly recommend you go with a top-level domain such as .com or .net. Chances are if you wish to register your name, like I did, it will be available. Once your name is registered, NO ONE but you can take it away from you - it's yours - you own it. There's some ins and outs to name registration that I learned the hard way, so if anyone reading this decides to do it, contact me privately or by phone(good luck - I'm never here!). I wouldn't want you to make the same mistake I did, and it easily avoidable. The mistake I made was not asking for advice on what to do about a certain way your domain is handled. There's a Technical Contact, Administrative Contact, and the Registrant. That sounds more difficult than it really is..trust me. Once that process is completed, then you need to find a web host so you can use your name. Just registering it doesn't get you anything. Think of it has getting your license - it doesn't mean you get a car when you get your license. I use www.superb.net as my web host. Their least expensive option provides me with 10 email addresses and tons of web space..more than I will ever need or use for the business. Enter "web host" in any search engine and thousands will appear before you. How I decided on superb.net was easy - they came recommended from a well-respected friend in NY who was 2 years ahead of me in the process, and when I contacted them, they were extremely professional, courteous, patient, and quick to respond to any of my 'newbee' questions. You will have them, so don't be afraid to ask. If you decide to do this and you choose superb.net as your host, please mention to the Sales Person that I recommended you to them - mention that they host www.philbondi.com, and I believe I get a small discount the next time I renew with them. If you use the domain for business, it's a write-off under Advertising. I don't regret owning philbondi.com or using superb.net to host the domain. Any question, just ask. -Phil Bondi (Fl.) phil@philbondi.com
