Dear David and list -=20

=20

Thank you very much for the spontaneous recognition of the work that =
I've
done for Gonzalo Rubalcaba. "Inner Voyage" is a beautifully played =
album,
and it was a pleasure to work with such an artist. A subsequent album, =
that
I also tuned for, is "Supernova", which won the best Latin jazz Grammy =
for
2002. It also used a Yamaha CFIIIS concert grand that I selected for
Gonazalo.

=20

This year, I tuned for the Grammy winner of this year's "Best =
Instrumental
Jazz Album", which is named "Speaking of Now". It's a wonderfully =
melodic
album that is very accessible for jazz enthusiasts.=20

=20

The piano is a Hamburg Steinway "B" that the band carries on the road =
with
them all over the world. They use an enormous packing case that was
custom-built for the instrument. MIDI control, when appropriate for a =
given
tune, is the Gulbransen system. It's proven to be very reliable over =
many
years.

=20

Thank you again, David, for your kind comments. My thanks also to the =
others
who followed up with equally generous words.=20

=20

My recovery from highly successful surgery for esophageal cancer is
proceeding well. I'm back out tuning again, although still on a limited
basis. I anticipate that I'll become more active as the year progresses. =
My
Chapter (NYC) has been incredibly supportive and generous in their =
response
to the unwelcome surprise to my health. They held an extremely =
successful
auction on my behalf, and with the support also of our NERVP Patrick =
Draine.
The auction helped to take the edge off of the financial burden during =
the
first few months after I got out of the rehab facility.

=20

My gratitude to the Guild members, both local and far-flung, is
immeasurable!

=20

With humble sincerity,

=20

Tom Sheehan, RPT

Hello list,=20

I recently bought a CD by one of my favorite artists, jazz pianist =
Gonzalo
Rubalcaba. It is called "Inner Voyage" on Blue Note. I listen to =
several
of the pieces over and over and over as I drive from job to job, and =
each
time I am more amazed at the beauty of the instument he's playing on(not =
to
mention Gonzalo's own artistry). =20

I finally opened up the cover, and lo and behold in the credits were =
listed
the type of piano played(CF III S Yamaha) and the technician that tuned =
it:
Thomas A. Sheehan. Does anyone know him? I would like to congratulate =
him
on the work he did in preparing the piano for this CD. It sings in the
treble in ways I have never heard. The sustain is phenomenal. =20

The truth be told, as I get more and more entrenched in this =
business/art,
pianos on jazz recordings sound less and less in tune. =20

If you like jazz at all, this CD is worth checking out. My favorite song =
is
"Joan." And Thomas, if you're out there, great job! =20
