I made a little one-foot by 4-foot (about) wooden frame and stretched piano strings across its length (with tuning pins, agraffes, hitch pins etc.). When I put on new grand damper felt, I align the tricord wedges like Roger with a thin straight-edge, and the bicord dampers with a little wooden "V"-shaped mold I made. Then I set the damper heads & felt onto the stringed wooden frame until ready to put in piano. Maybe overkill, but works great.
