Hi Tommy -

You might consider using the relatively new Transtint Dyes, available
from www.HomesteadFinishing.com They are "metalized dyes" that are
very lightfast. They come in a VERY concentrated liquid form, allowing
you to either a) dilute to use as a dye stain, or b) add by the drop to
any finish for toning. Interestingly, they are soluble in water or
alcohol or lacquer. Certainly would yield better clarity than glazes,
while maintaining lightfastness. Just another option in a finisher's
arsenal.

Yes Ultra Penetrating Stains can be sprayed uniformly but there is
one big, bad major problem with these stains.....they quickly fade
especially if exposed to sunlight.
I frequently shade the final color with this method but because of
fading I am thinking of changing the shading step to Glazing stains.
