  Subject: Acceptable Tuning Pin Height

  Good morning.

I'll be finishing up a re-string today, with a little help from my =
friend
  Dave Smith.

  >From you more experienced stringers out there, what is the height =
from the
plate that you feel is acceptable and workable for future years?

In the past, I have tapped them in until the top of the threads just
  disappear into the nether region.

  Looking forward to your comments.

3/16" to 1/4" from top of plate or pinblock to bottom coil. Don't =
know why --just seems to be what most pianos have. =20
