Definitely a wise idea. Ad-Aware by Lavasoft is a free program that searches and cleans spyware. I tried it and was amazed to see how many bits of spy crap was on my system. Once deleted my computer's performance increased dramatically. You can download Ad-Aware here: http://www.lavasoft.nu/software/adaware/ I highly recommend it.
