Hello David Melis Yes! The pin block was always exposed on this ol' Steck. In fact I even regularly tune a S&S upright with exposed pin block. As for grands - the older Grotrians also have exposed pin blocks. I use a short-hand method of descibing the pianos I tune: OSU,GF,DT,PROL,CEL,88 = overstrung upright, gap frame (you have an uncovered pin block) dolly touch,prolong,celeste(moderator)88note. Other variations are VSO for vertically strung upright (yuk!)1/2 or 3/4F = half or three-quarter frame, CT = capstan touch etc. etc. The list is endless - but it uses less ink! :-) Good luck, sit back and enjoy the erudite techies.....
