Hello list Ron Nossaman says: "Taking the bass strings off entirely has very little effect on the tuning of the rest of the piano." Hear him! Hear him! Which is why you can take all the Bass strings off a piano to replace them. And why it is that even though the "metals" (treble strings) go horribly out of tune the Bass strings are frequently un-affected. But I still don't know why I go to the Bass end first - just habit I guess... Regards Michael G (UK)
