replacing plastic elbows

Hi.
  I replaced a set of plastic elbows today,with new ones.When removing the 
old ones,some were not dried out on the very end,and had to be twisted 
off,instead of crushing with the pliers.I broke them off as close to the end as 
possible, then holding the rod with vise grips, put a socket(one size bigger than the 
broken pieces)on my reversible drill,and twisted them off quickly, what a 
time saver.
