Dave, Try to isolate by seeing if you can make the noise with the action out. If not, check the back action, maybe a loose damper lead? There was a cool set of damper sqeezing pliers advertised onlist a few months ago, they could come in handy. Also, check if you can make the noise with the damper pedal down. Sometimes the upstop rail can even make some noises. By your description of a rattle, (not just single click) did you try tipping the action on its side to see if anything is in there? (can you tell I work a lot in schools?)
