Joe,

I am not making any assumptions. I am making a declaration. Here it is again:
In a properly designed and adjusted damper system, there is no need 
for a dummy damper to be installed to keep the single lift rod away 
from the damper levers. None whatsoever.

That's it, man.

Joe, I never took issue with the "squeak" thing. It was never part of 
the original poster's question, which is what I have been addressing 
all along:

My primary focus has been to only address his question. I have made 
up my mind why it is there in some pianos and not in others. I am not 
asking anyone else to accept my conclusions. Everyone is free to 
believe what they want. Finis

Now if it's of any consequence, your squeak elimination idea was a 
great tip, okay? I did not miss it when you first posted it.
