Reading a Board geometry

I've spent quite a bit of time on the back side and under side of pianos 
with my variable length Kansas straightedge (black suture thread), as well 
as above with bearing gages of various sorts. I've found it far more 
enlightening (as well as far more work) than guessing, assuming, and 
wondering. Learning always takes work, and it's just a matter of whether or 
not you want to know badly enough to expend the effort and brain cells 
chasing answers. If you do, get in there and get going.
