It's the proximity of the bridge body to the bellyrail stretcher. Even =
with the bellyrail extension it is so close that the stiffness of the =
soundboard takes precedence.

It is a different story with uprights. It's a lot easier to design a =
good treble section in an upright (for one reason) because you can make =
room above the bridge.
