Steinway 0 serial 240016 ... puts it in the mid 1920's C6 had 9 seconds audible sustain F6 had 7.2 seconds A6 had 5.5 seconds C7 had 4 seconds All times taken by stop watch, and are the average result of three attempts. Not bad for an old beater. It has a rather large crack aft of the longbridge... no sign of loosening from the ribs. Othewise no sign of cracking anywhere. Not even the usual hairlines around the bridgepins. Pins appear to be origionals and sit tight in the wrest plank. All in all looks like the wood is in good shape, indicating less then the worst extremes of climatic conditions through the years. FWIW RicB -- Richard Brekne RPT, N.P.T.F.
