scotch tape residue

As others have noted, GooGone works great.

I have found that Protek works very well, and since I carry it 
everywhere I go, it is often what I have immediately available.

WD-40 applied to a cotton cloth works OK, although WD-40 can be 
difficult _itself_ to completely remove.
