Michael, when you say:

you might keep in mind that octave stretching should start at the 
temperament octave and continue throughout the tuning.  If you set a 
machine "no-stretch" temperament octave, and then try to extend it aurally 
to a complete tuning with stretch, the tuning cannot be as even as one 
that is designed from the beginning with the correct amount of stretch in 
mind.  Just look at the tuning curves of any of the more advanced ETDs.  
Different degrees of stretch do affect the shape of the temperament octave 
as well as the high treble.
