The shops don't employ tuners like they use to it is all down to $$$ and
quite a few are no longer giving a free tuning on a sale of a piano

There is less learning the trade as well and the ones who are don't get
the same training as they did 20 years ago the men in black who pay the
bills will not pay

There are lot of good blind tuners who can do repairs but don't they
farm it out - but most blind tuners in the UK have a driver and they
tend to teach them to replace strings ect

It only takes one bad tuner in an area to make it bad for the rest if a
sited tuner makes a hash of job when fixing a problem it just a case
of "We will not use him or don't use that guy" but if he - she is blind
its "don't use a blind one we had one ...."

As to bad string yes I have seen some disasters by both sited and blind
tuners

At the end of the day it is all down to training and persons pride in
their work

Take care

Barrie,
