We looked at the piano today. (I brought along a= =20 fellow tech with square grand rebuilding experience.) Without removing th= e=20 action (couldn't figure out how...without taking up alot of the owner's time= =20 anyway...) it seemed to play pretty well. One key didn't work...felt like=20= a=20 broken jack. Treble hammers were covered with leather. There was water=20 damage to the back of the piano, all the veneer was peeling off. Big crack= s=20 under the keybed on the underside of the piano. Multiple cracks in the=20 soundboard. The lyre, too, had split apart probably from water damage. =20 I was originally attracted to the instrument for two reasons: I have a clien= t=20 who was interested in obtaining one, and it was selling for $20.50. On=20 eBay. Thirdly, (I guess that's THREE reasons, isn't it?) the piano is only= 45=20 minutes from my home. Forty-five minutes isn't far, relatively speaking, h= ere=20 in Chicago. =20 I'm passing on it only because the client decided he didn't want to spend=20 that much money. If anyone is interested in this piano, you can find it on eBay. The auctio= n=20 ends today. The present bid is $20.50. It is certainly restorable, but=20 not without a lot of work.
