I'll go with too wide felt punchings on the front rail. If the felt under
the blacks is too wide it will stop the whites from coming all the way down.
You mention it was the middle of the keyboard. This usually gets compressed
first and the symptom would appear quicker than further up or down. You didn't
mention if it was only the whites or both.
Or it could be the mouse.
