Hi Terry, The best rate for bringing it to Chicago I could get was $950. Maybe it would have still been worth it, but with no idea of condition I thought if I keep looking around I might find something as good in my area for quite a bit less total expense. Plus I'm still kind of stuck on seeing what 58" Bush & Lane is all about! Speaking of looking around my own area, there is a Mason & Hamlin Screwstringer that I can get for $200 plus delivery near here. I was surprised that is such a small piano! I found it at a piano dealer in the suburbs who had a warehouse of old pianos he took me over to see. There were 5 or 6 other old uprights, such as Kimballs & Adam Schaffs etc., in various states of misery for about $100-125 each. He said he would bring them ALL over for the price plus one $250 delivery charge; but since most of them aren't anything really exceptional I'm still looking around. Since the Screwstringer is so small, I wasn't that excited by its potentials. If I'm missing something here, hopefully someone will let me know. This is indeed an M&H, and from the case, it sure does look like its from around 1920. Terry Farrell ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lesher, Trent J." <tlesher@sachnoff.com> To: "Pianotech@Ptg. The cabinet looks identical to a 1925 I've seen, but from some of the numbers below, maybe it was made between 1915 and 1919. It is located in Batavia New York, which is upstate, in the neighborhood of Buffalo, I believe. The current bid is only $10 and there is no minimum bid. The auction expires at 5 a.m. Pacific Time tomorrow, Wednesday, i.e., in about 14 hours. It is sold strictly as-is, and apparently has lived, and would have to be picked up from the ground floor of, the New York State School for the Blind in Batavia. > > A woman named Cindy at the school was kind enough to give me the following numbers which she had copied off the piano from various places: on plate - D24608; burned into wood on back -- 4518142; "in front of keys inside" (on the action?) -- 25207. > > This item carries no picture in the general listing and a typo has it as a "Mason & Hemlin," so it may be overlooked by many. > > Just passing this info on in case anybody on the list is in that area and would like to rebuild or experiment with one of these. > > Trent Lesher > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > . > EVEN MORE IMPORTANT NOTICE: Never mind the message below.
