Carl,
>From the picture, I'd say you have enough "meat" on the tails to "grind"
them in the proper way. Currently, I have a Bechstein grand on the bench,
that has all of the checks angled for the hammer tails. Seems to work just
fine.<G> As the Bechstein has the traditional European moulding/tail, it is
not possible to re-shape them, without adding something to the inside,
(cove), of the tail(s). I've done that, but it's a pain in the rump! (A
client that INSISTED on Renner hammers on his NY S&S. mumble mumble as
well.)(This was Pre-Renner Blues.)
