This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment I would submit that it is more that just their loss, but loss of the = readers of this list also. Personally, I tend to disregard the = information in Pee's posts because I have no idea what the source is. I = have little doubt he/she/it has much good experience to share, but not = having any idea of who the source is, I have no idea whatsoever how to = value it. Let's face it, when evaluating technical details posted on = this list, anyone who has their head screwed on straight looks to see = who posted it as part of an evaluation they might do to characterize the = information's value. Impossible to do when you don't know who it is at = all - so default value of zero is utilized. Everyone looses. Sad....and = rather immature. I always hated nicknames myself, and I never used them, = even in their hayday when the anonymity of the Internet first caught on. = Why call myself anything but my proper name? But having said that, there are a lot of people who like to hide = behind nicknames (or screen names, in AOL-speak). I'm not sure I see = any harm in this, although it still seems peculiar to me. If there is = any harm, it is the harm these people do to themselves, not only damping = their credibility but also missing business opportunities. People like = Terry Farrell, for instance, are building important business = relationships on this list, seeking to sell their services to = colleagues. Tuna and Topper are (is?) missing out on this opportunity. = Their (his?) loss. I don't understand it, but I still don't see the = harm. If I were one of you professionals, I think my sig line would = have not only my proper name and location, but also my address, phone, = and business web site link! That's only good business sense. Peace, Sarah ... Why = be anonymous here? It's not like we're bashing manufacturers and = dealers left and right... (although people do seem to tiptoe around = mentioning anything derogatory about S&S). I do understand, though, = because of the public availability of the list on the net. There may be = an expectation of a certain level of privacy, since only subscribers = receive the mail, and yet the archives are open to the Internet at = large. How about a compromise: maybe just a first name? I'm now with those of you who want a real name requirement for = posting to Pianotech. This is ridiculous. Should be common courtesy. Since PianoTunaGuy can't take multiple hints about using a real = name, I hereby name him Mr. Fishy Butt. U1 <g> That goes for U2 Topper. All in good humor, my anonymous comrades.
