I've found that bolstering with key bushing cloth will bring these thingees
into a more proper shape. Dip the tip of a strip of key bushing cloth, into
some glue and let harden. Trim to a point and thread the strip between the
knuckle leather and shank. I've also used a leather needle for this purpose.
A leather needle is a FLAT needle with a split eye/barb that will hold the
material.
