    Wouldn't a larger diameter (larger tube) produce a lower, rather than
higher, pitch?


 However, there's not really much of an effect on pitch.

Maybe with woodwinds, but I remember orchestra rehearsals where after a
while, the brass, especially, would have to re-tune because they had gone
flat after the instruments warmed up.  Now, the air coming from the player's
lungs is still the same temperature, but the instrument is warmer.  I doubt
the diameter of the tubing expands all that much.  I think it has more to do
with the acoustical properties of warm versus cold air.
