I'm getting in on this thread a bit late. I'm wondering if the Toooner, who 
"rebuilt" that sucker, put 7/8" punchings in, instead of the usual 3/4"?

    Doesn't matter, in some pianos.  My piano was doing the same thing and 
it had 3/4" front rail punchings.  I hollowed out a notch on the underside 
of all the naturals to clear the sharps' front punchings.  Yes, I suppose it 
changes the touchweight almost imperceptibly.
