DOS was the underlying OS for Win3.x/Win95/98/. With WinME, the architecture started changing. Win2K and WinXP are drastically different. The core technology of Win4Lin, called merge, was developed when DOS ruled. We are overcoming the technical challenges and expect to have a Win2k beta by the end of the year. At this point, I am uncertain if this will include WinXP. I wouldn't expect it to, but I would say when Win2k support is available, WinXP shouldn't be too far behind. As for the going backward discussion. I won't aim to change your perspective, but I will give you mine. Windows 98 provides a stable platform in Win4Lin, and most applications should run in 98. I am told some programs no longer support Win98, but I cannot provide any examples. This is a debate that has been waged by Win4Lin users for a while. I believe the difference is neglible. I may of course change my mind after we have support, but for now, I have no problems running win98 SE, after using XP pro and Win2K pro. My best advice is to contact sales@netraverse.com and request an evaluation. Install it and test your applications. Your users might decide that the current Win4Lin does not meet their needs. Then again, they might decide the current implementation does work.
