Well said, Carol. I am amazed how quickly in the early years of my business that my database grew to over a thousand clients. I wasn't that good a tuner and there were three other guys in the area much better than me and much longer in the business. The big dealer had an excellent tech, but the tech was, shall we say, an eccentric long haired musician who frequently didn't show up for appointments and had an attitude towards the customers. The dealer started giving the first time free tunings to me whenever he got a complaint about the other guy not showing up. It wasn't too long before the dealer didn't even bother calling the other guy and I got them all. I'm always more interested in the people and their families than I am the piano. That is what I love about this job.
