  Subject: Steinway heavy touch
  Comments below interspersed by Tom Driscoll

  We all know that Steinway pianos, both verticals and grands have a =
heavy touch.<SNIP>=20
      We do?=20
       I am now rebuilding a 1975 Steinway console that has an extremely =
heavy touch. <SNIP> Define rebuilding please--New soundboard ,pinblock =
,all new action parts?
      Anyone have any ideas about solving this problem? Grafiting the =
hammer butts, <SNIP>
      Graphite what--and why?
      adding weights to the keys? <SNIP>Did you evaluate DW,UW ,etc?
      All the flanges are free and are not causing this problem.
  Thanks for any input that I can receive on this dilemma.

  Mr. Czeky,
      Before you jump into anything drastic here, you need to do more =
evaluation. Its like going to a mechanic and saying your car doesn't =
drive well.
      A few tips :Tight keybushings, balance holes, Graphite gunk =
anywhere(like capstans) ,Too early damper lift with the key.
