Methanol, but I really would suggest buying the concentrate from LaRose, Timekeepers, or Merritts....sue google for their addresses. Blackened, tarnished brass will really clean up nicely, requiring very little polishing for a bright finish. This really works great on agraffes with no polishing. Berley
