Did you have any problems with excess stretching of the bass strings such that the mechanism bottomed out? The knot tying was tricky at first, but after you make a few, it becomes pretty straightforward. All in all, it is only slightly more time consuming than making a set of single tie loops. :-) As I learned the hard way, the major issue here is to measure string length accurately. Contrary to a pin setup, you can't take up excess slack by turning up the pin an extra 1/4 of a turn, because you run out of thread on the hook shaft. I found it was easier to take the string off the hitch pin – after putting the first hook on the string – in order to put the second one on in such a way that both hooks reached just beyond the ridge on the casting, so that the nut could grab onto the threads, but no further. All this with the string back on the hitch pin, of course. This leaves you with most of the thread length chip up and tune afterwards. It was a process that made me throw many a choice swear word into the airwaves before I got the hang of it. Just my 2 pennies' worth. Sorry if I'm telling you what you already know, and have fun with it.
