Well,

My wife is a professional pianist and a composer of contemporary music.
She need to be able to work night and day in our apartment on the=20
fourth floor, in an older building, built in the 1920's.
Thanks to all the existing deities, including Donald Duck, that my=20
neighbors are abnormal people, by which I mean that they don't make a=20
single sound... I never hear them.
Likewise, I don't want to create irritations so we had a sound=20
specialist come over to give us 'sound' advice.
We accepted his offer because, out of a number of so called=20
specialists, his views on sound and how to make a soundproof room=20
seemed the best thus far.
He started out with laying a huge amount of rubber on the floor, maybe=20=

about 15 cm high.
On that rubber basis, he laid a platform of wood, on which he built a=20
complete room, without any of the walls or ceiling touching the=20
existing walls, or ceiling.
Because we liked to keep the view outside the huge original window, he=20=

built a double window, through which we could open the original window=20=

to air it out as well.
Another compromise was made by making two very heavy doors : one to=20
enter the room, the other to open a deep cupboard, built in the=20
original wall. In these older houses, you can't afford to let=20
cupboards disappear. Space is sparse and valuable (Holland, you know).
We installed my wife's grand piano, and her equipment, and then she=20
went down to water the plants of the neighbor, who was on vacation, and=20=

she asked me to play the piano so that she could check if the neighbor=20=

would still be able to hear our piano.
So I started playing loud for a few minutes, and then the phone rang...=20=

It was my wife, asking me whether I had started playing the piano, or=20
not?

(; >))

friendly greetings
from
