HI John,
No, the original ceilings in this older apartment house are quite high,=20=

typical for that period (early twenties) and the style it was built in.
The ceilings are about 3.20 mtr high.
The lower ceiling, combined with the higher floor makes for about 30 cm=20=

all in all, so inside the 'new room' the ceiling is still reasonably=20
high.
We had an unexpected problem though :
The weight of mainly the grand piano compressed the rubber under layers=20=

so much, that the original windows, when opened, began to touch the=20
window frame of the window, built in the new room.
The builder was able to fix it with a plane but he was sweating....=20
pfooooh!

of course not John, this was almost 5 years ago and the price was in=20
Dutch Guilders (still) Dfl. 17.000,--
That is now appr. =80 7700,-- which is in US $ 9800,-- cheap.
I recommended the guy who did the job for me to other musicians, and I=20=

know that he has raised his price.
We are happy with the final result. he did a neat job also in the=20
finish of the interior, and it is absolutely quiet, even in the middle=20=

of the night!

Since we are talking about a piano-soundproof room in my house, I could=20=

not resist inserting this nice picture taken from that very studio=20
room.
It overlooks the Reinier Vinkeleskade (a Dutch painter) where we see an=20=

abundance of small boats, ducks and geese going by.
I usually wake up in the night for a pee, and always take a look out of=20=

the bay windows in the other front room. =46rom those short 'night =
walks'=20
I have learned that ducks almost never really sleep! In the middle of=20
the night I see them swimming around and yelling out loud : Quack-Quack=20=

Quack-Quack!! restless creatures, dem ducks........
