Missing plate bolt on 1997 Yamaha GP1?

A picture next time, I promise...  This is similar:

(Except it's a Phillips head).  It's in the raised area of the plate next to 
the rim.  Looking through the hole, there's three or four inches of air 
between the plate and the soundboard.

Since it's the very last hole in the plate on the treble side, perhaps it 
did have some special use like indexing.  But it's a very obvious hole; 
wouldn't they have put a cap on it or something?
