Bronze paint chipping off hitch pins

I offer the same apology regarding double posting as my previous post (re: 
Diamond tuning pins)

Is there a way of preventing (or discouraging) the bronzing from chipping 
off the hitch pins?  Is there some de-greasing process that the hitch pins 
need to undergo before spraying, or are there some bronzing products that 
are more reliable?  (I don't yet know the source of the product that was 
used, but I could find out).
