IMH?O I'd mention five things:

1. A lot of people have held on to beliefs about Tunelab based on the early freeware versions. It has become a VERY sophisticated ETD software package.

2. If your email to Dean was very recent, he was busy as a teacher, exhibitor, and RPT tester (I think) at the convention. As to Bob at TL, I have always found him very communicative and helpful. He also has obviously listened to his users when upgrading the product.

3. TL will give you a free download trial so you know exactly what you're getting.

4. In addition to the normal phase shift bars (or spinners on other ETDs), TL has a spectrum analyzer with graphic display that I find fantastic, very useful for a number of things.

5. TL is much less than half of CT's price, and six truckloads cheaper than any of the "boxes."

PS: The "box" people tend to advertise based on reliability--no system crashes, no need to upgrade, etc. I think that's kinda bogus. I've never had a "crash" of my iPAQ while running TL, never lost data, never had a tuning session ruined, etc. And, frankly, I think the ability to upgrade software is a GOOD idea, not a weak point.

Hi dave

I've just bought a pocket pc and installed RCT and am amazed at the results. I do tune aurally and wonder why it took me so long to convert to ET. Might of course have had something to do with the cost (about $1900.00 - that's Aussie dollars too BTW).
The first piano I tuned was a Yamaha U3 - great piano for a first time test run and I tund it in "easy mode". The result was stunning. Stretch was great and 3rds and sixes were very smooth right throughout the whole piano.
I'm here to stay.
The only complaint I have, and this may seem a little trite is that I emailed Dean Reybern with elation and congratulations on his product and he never emailed me back!!
Never mind, in my opinion RCT is great. Much more user friendly than Tunelab. But then that's only my opinion.
Steve Martin.
