Anything you can do probably involves removing them anyway and trying to clean the gunk our from the windings. Expensive lesson for your customer, but I don’t see much choice but to replace. David Love davidlovepianos@comcast.net Maybe not necessarily. I remember asking last year why liquids spilled or sprayed on bass strings tend to make them go dead or buzz. Someone replied that they don't and that he had cleaned sets of bass strings with some sort of solvent with no ill effects. --David Nereson, RPT
