Just a guess here David, but I would think you would have to use an awful lot of lead to get the return rate that you get with springs. Springs allow for a graduated resistance, increasing as the pedal is depressed further. Weighting might also allow the upper assy. (e.g. tray) to loose contact with the trapwork levers, causing some knocking noise. Speculation here. Maybe not............ Respectfully, William R.
