Crushed damper stop rail

Put a washer under the screw head for a bigger contact area, and to 
bridge the locally crushed spot. Then, after getting the thing 
adjusted to your satisfaction, drive a few brads in (head proud so 
they can be pulled later if necessary) to lock it in.
