Those 13 layers of shellac are ment to make the 8 ribs sound nice.

The case (c = 3 a = 1 s = sh** e = 5).

And why exactly 233 for the longest string ?

Because this very length makes  the ribs (2+3+3 = 8) of the potential buyers 
(2+3 = 5) vibrate in a mood that favors the deal (8+5 = 13).
