Dampers Pluck Strings

My client with a 1979 Baldwin spinet complained of excess noise when she
depressed the damper pedal. My examination showed that the unichord bass
damper felts had somehow gotten sticky and would "pluck" those bass strings
when lifted. Anybody ever seen that?

My quick remedy was to dust talc powder onto the face of the sticky damper
felts. Problem solved.
