What part of the pictures are you referring to that is troubling? The deep indentations? Looks like a bit of aggressive "string seating". Real hard material is hard to find. Bridge tops need to be burnished (at least) and a nice clear coat of epoxy sanded back to the original level when fully cured doesn't hurt either to get those caps really hard.
