I don't think a 1908 Bechstein should have problems other than any piano of such age. It's true that some Bechstein plates have cracks, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they become unuseable. It depends where the crack is and it can always be repared. Anyway, if the plate didn't crack until now, I think it is safe to pull it up to pitch. It is below pitch, and he would like to know if anyone knows of any inherent structural problems inherent in this model. I checked the archives, and there were several messages indicating that the models A, B, C, and V from this period were indeed prone to plate cracks; some leading to complete failure and some not.
