Hi John -

You will save much time polishing if you first remove the finish on the hinge. A liquid stripper works best, but likely either acetone or lacquer thinner will also do the job.

            Hi list!
Working on the old Brinkerhoff “lab” piano. I’ve been polishing the hinges, the small ones come out very nice (with Brasso), but the long “piano” hinge seems to have some kind of coating (lacquer?) that is fairly resistant. Is there some other way these are polished? Or just persistence!!!!
  Thanks
  John Delmore
