I've found it easier to use a small, plain curtain rod, the kind with
rounded brass ends, which telescopes to different lengths. Have it too 
short, put
it in place and expand till just snug, and then mark the seam between
the two sides with a magic marker. Take it out, expand it to the mark,
and there you have it.
