Well, if the shank will not drop after let-off, what is holding it up?  If 
the balancier is off the knuckle, and the tail of the hammer is not in contact 
with backcheck, there must be some anti-gravity force field right around some 
of these shanks!  
     Could the jack be trapped between the proximal side of the knuckle and 
the mortise felt?
