wire size

I bet that would be a thick string, size 23.  I'm hoping to get the hang of this string replacing procedure eventually.  I'd like to know how totally blind techs. overcome this obstacle.

I’m new at this game Avery so please tell me if I’m wrong.  I just measured the scrap string I took off the piano at .041.  Am I correct that this would be a size 18?
