I wouldn't take being called a troglodyte particularly offensive. I 
was fortunate to visit them in the Loire valley some years ago and, 
if I recall correctly from reading and listening to local histories 
of the troglodyte communities, their building underground dwellings 
was, at least in part, a unique defensive strategy.  Much more info googlable

All the superannuated hippies on this list should remember the 60's 
and 70's flurry of berm and underground housing built which came 
about as environmentalists tried to save the planet.  In Tunisia, 
Turkey and other locations they'd been doing just that for 
millenia.  What is to be ashamed of for using the naturally cool 
underground for living in a hot environment.

Modern usage has attached some stygma to the term, but I have flamesuits...
